"In the beginning, there was only Darkness. A kind of Darkness that would terrify even the bravest of Necromancers. This was no ordinary darkness that you see late into the night. No no no, you see, this Darkness was a living object. It covered and consumed everything. Entire villages would vanish over night. Kingdoms would fall to it's might. Even Godrich himself was afraid of the Darkne-"
"But Papa!" she exclaimed, clutching her father's arm. "Godrich wasn't afraid of anything!"
Her father looked at her, a smile on his face. "Ah, but he was, my child. For this was a time when Godrich was but a child!"
"But papa-" she exclaimed once more, stopping as her father put a finger to his lips.
"Listen, my child, and you will understand." He opened the book, smiling brightly at her. "It was a time of Chaos and Corruption. The more the Kingdoms grew, the more the Darkness lingered!"
There was a knock on the door that shook the very house itself. "My Lord, we're here for the package!" came a voice.
"Papa, who is it?" the young girl asked excitedly. "Is it brother??"
Her father smiled at her, patting her on the head. "Go on upstairs. Its only the delivery service..." His smile faded after she left his sight, running to get ready for slumber.
The man opened the door, letting himself in. "Godrich, I tol-" the man stopped when Godrich held up his hand.
"I've told you a hundred times if I've told you once. Do not call me that here!" Godrich said with a low, firm growl.
"But my Lor-" Godrich walked past the man, making his way to the cabinet by the door.
"If my daughter knew who I was, then I fear for what her future would hold..."
"You know that you won't be able to keep it a secret forever..." the man said, turning to face Godrich.
The man had features very similar to Godrich himself. His jaw was firm and set, the jaw of a knight. His eyes glistened in the candle light, fires dancing within them. Emerald was the color he had. While similar to Godrich, this was the only real difference. His hair was dark and messy, the hair of a journeyman. His back straightened as he stood, setting his hand upon the sword at his side.
"I know, my son," Godrich said with a sigh. "But she can't know... Not yet, anyways." He fumbled around with a box before opening it, pulling out a small dagger no bigger than his hand.
"I hope you know what you're doing, Father," the man said before placing a hand over the dagger and hiding it away in his cloak. "For the sake of yourself and her..."
The girl awoke from her sleep, her hand placed where her heart was, panting, sweating. She looked around momentarily, taking in the view of the empty room she was in. Nightstand, cabinet, door, creepy man in the arm chair, dresser. She looked back at the man, jumping from the bed to only fall to the floor, dropping her knife.
"Careful, child," the man said with a sly smile creeping onto his face. "Wouldn't want you getting hurt, would we?"
She winced as she felt a small pinch at her neck. She watched, darkness closing around her, as the snake slithered from her shoulder and across the floor.
"This will all be over soon enough..."
Then Darkness.
